In July of 2021, UM-EB will compete in the PEP for small craft racing competition. It is a 5-mile race with our electric boat in Baltimore, MD. This competition gives students an opportunity to work with design software, a variety of tools, and collaborate to create an innovative final product. Michigan Electric Boat and our competitors are tasked with completing 5 laps in a short out and back circuit in the waters of Curtis Creek and Arundel Cove. The top three winners will be awarded $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 at the conclusion of the competition. Participants in the competition will be tasked with completing 5 laps of a short (less than 1 mile) out and back circuit in relatively protected waters of Curtis Creek and Arundel Cove. The competition is open to both manned and unmanned vessels, but participation is subject to compliance with all USCG regulations. Manned and unmanned vessels will race separately for safety reasons. Additionally, the competition organizers reserve the right to decline any vessel water access if safety concerns are present.
